Agricultural Fencing & Farm Barriers
Rot-proof recycled plastic posts and rails for field boundaries, livestock enclosures and farm infrastructure. Zero maintenance for 25+ years.
Why recycled plastic
Why UK farms are switching from timber
Timber fencing on a working farm is an annual maintenance liability. Post rot, board replacement, and re-treatment costs compound over years. Recycled plastic eliminates all of it.
Never rots in ground contact
Timber fence posts in clay-heavy, waterlogged farmland rot at ground level within 5–10 years — often sooner in permanent wet conditions. Recycled plastic posts have 0% moisture absorption and will never rot, regardless of soil type or water table.
Livestock safe
No creosote, no preservatives, no toxic treatments. Safe for cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, and all livestock to lean on or chew. Meets the no-treatment requirement for organic livestock farms.
Flexible under livestock pressure
Cattle and large livestock exert significant lateral force on fencing. Recycled plastic fence boards flex under pressure and return to their original position rather than snapping. Gate post sizes from 100mm × 100mm handle heavy farm gates.
No annual maintenance budget
Timber fencing requires annual creosoting, treatment, and regular post replacement. Once recycled plastic fencing is installed, the maintenance cost is zero. The saving across a working farm over 25 years is substantial.
UK-wide pallet delivery
Large farm and field orders delivered UK-wide on pallets. We supply farms, estates, and agricultural contractors. Trade pricing available for bulk orders. Typical lead time 3–5 working days.
Standard installation — no special tools
Standard post drivers work with recycled plastic posts. Boards are fixed with stainless steel screws or bolts using standard hand tools. No specialist equipment or skills required — install the same way as timber.
Cost comparison
25-year total cost — timber vs recycled plastic
Higher upfront cost, dramatically lower whole-life cost. The maths favour recycled plastic on any fence line that will be in place for more than 10 years.
| Cost factor | Treated Timber | Recycled Plastic |
|---|---|---|
| Initial material cost | Lower | Higher |
| Post replacement (25 yrs) | 2–3 replacement cycles | None |
| Annual creosote/treatment | Yes — every 1–3 years | Never |
| Labour maintenance cost | Ongoing | Zero |
| Disposal of old posts | Required | Not applicable |
| 25-year total cost | Typically 2–3× higher | Initial cost only |

What post sizes are recommended for agricultural use?
100mm × 100mm is the standard size for most agricultural fencing, cattle paddocks, and sheep enclosures. 125mm × 125mm is recommended for gate posts and high-pressure livestock applications. 150mm × 150mm for extra-heavy-duty gates and commercial installations.
What spacing should I use for agricultural fence posts?
2–2.5m centres for standard livestock fencing. 1.5–2m for equestrian paddocks with heavy horse pressure. Gate posts should be set in concrete at 750–900mm depth for maximum lateral stability.
Can I drive recycled plastic posts with a standard post driver?
Yes. Standard post drivers (manual or tractor-mounted) work well with pointed recycled plastic posts. The material drives cleanly through most UK soils without splitting. In very stony ground, pilot holes may be preferable.
Are the posts suitable for organic and livestock farming?
Yes. No creosote, preservatives, or toxic treatments of any kind. Suitable for organic certification schemes and safe for all livestock. The material is inert and contains no harmful compounds.
Do you supply on pallet for large farm orders?
Yes. We deliver UK-wide on pallets for farm-scale orders. Trade and bulk pricing is available for large quantities. Lead time is typically 3–5 working days from order confirmation.
